What does botox do to get rid of wrinkles, could it work for me?

Botox has been around for a long time now - many celebrities have been said to have turned to it in their hour of need and why not? We live in the age of the smartphone - everyone we know is now a photographer and so why not try and feel your best as often as you can. If having those fine lines and wrinkles attended to make you feel confident in your skin why not? And what’s great is now your dentist in Sheffield is offering you the treatment too. Here’s how botox works and why we think it could help our patients.

What is botox?

Botox is a product that gets injected into your skin to rid your face of fine lines and wrinkles. It’s actually made from a toxin called bacterium clostridium botulinum - what a mouth full. It’s basically a muscle relaxant, it works by weakening and numbing the muscles that it’s injected into. For this reason over the years botox has started to be used among medical professionals for other treatments other than cosmetic surgery. It's now commonly used to also help prevent excessive sweating. Cervical dystonia, jaw clenching, bladder issues, migraines and blinking issues, (it’s clever stuff).

When might a person get Botox injections for wrinkles?

Now, with any cosmetic procedure you need to really take time to think about what you’re signing up for is right for you. It’s very easy to get over-excited when it comes to these things and rush into them. There are lots or reasons why people turn to cosmetic surgery for help and sometimes it’s not always beneficial so talk to your GP about why you want botox injections before visiting your dentist in Sheffield for the treatment.

You need to make sure you are visiting a professional - when you visit us you will be getting treated by a professional who has a wealth of experience in performing botox injections so you can rest assured you’re in safe hands with your dentist in Sheffield.

What happens when you have the Botox injections done?

When you come to the practice you’ll be met by one of our lovely team members, you’ll then talk with your performing practitioner about what you are wanting and they can talk you through what to expect. The injections take around 10-20 minutes, for most people they are quick with minimal discomfort but of course everyone reacts to pain differently. Usually there is no need to apply any local anesthetic.

After the injections you will not necessarily see major change straight away; it can take a couple of days to see the desired effect but don’t worry your lines will be gone in no time. You need to make sure after the procedure you aren’t rubbing or massaging your face as this could cause the botox to shit place. Also avoid major exercise activities or any strenuous movement - give the body time to settle. When you visit the practice the practitioner will of course be able to give you more tailored information.
