What Is Teeth Whitening?
Teeth Whitening is a cosmetic dental treatment that aims to help with tooth staining, and to make teeth whiter and brighter. Having your teeth whitened can be a great step to boost your smile confidence. We always advise for patients to have their whitening provided by a dentist, to ensure that the treatment is suitable for you, and that properly regulated and tested whitening gel is used.
How Does Teeth Whitening Work?
Teeth Whitening works by a bleaching gel being applied to the teeth. This gel changes the colour of your tooth surface (enamel). This type of treatment can help whiten your teeth without invasive treatment, by lightening the natural colour without removing any of the tooth surface.
What Can I Expect During Treatment?
We would recommend attending the practice for a full cosmetic clean first (commonly known as a scale and polish) to ensure that the whitening gel can permeate all of the tooth surface. If you are a new patient to us, you will need to attend a new patient examination to ensure that you are suitable for the treatment, and/or to resolve any outstanding dental issues first. We currently have a new patient offer for a combined examination, cosmetic clean and x-rays for £125.
During whitening treatment, you will attend for two appointments with us. The first, to take a 3D scan or impression of your teeth, in order to create bespoke fit trays for home use. The second, to show you how to use your custom fit trays, and provide you with the whitening gel. Sometimes, we offer a third appointment to review you and take pictures to help you see the difference before and after treatment.
We send patients home with the best whitening gel for their teeth and general lifestyle, alongside instructions on how to use the whitening gel at home. Our team are always here to help with any follow up questions as well.
Whenever you would like to do top up whitening treatment, after your initial whitening treatment, we stock top up gels. Simply call us and we can arrange for you to collect the prescription from the Practice.
What Teeth Whitening Brand Do You Use?
We use Boutique Whitening gel here at Sandygate Dental. We stock two different types: day time and night time. Boutique use different types of bleach depending on how long it’s going to be left on your teeth. There’s 6% hydrogen peroxide for day time use, which is applied for shorter lengths of time; and there’s 10% carbamide peroxide for night time use, which is applied for longer lengths of time.
